After CJI recuses self from Nirbhaya case; accused's review plea to be heard today


The hearing on the review petition filed by the 2012 gangrape and murder case convict Akshay Singh was adjourned to Wedenesday, as CJI SA Bobde recused himself from hearing the matter. The CJI-led bench on Tuesday had started hearing on the plea, when Justice Bobde's attention was drawn to the fact that his family member had represented the victim's family during the appeal process before the Supreme Court.Solicitor General [SG] Tushar Mehta asked him whether it would be 'appropriate' for him to hear the matter. While the SG said that there was ''no conflict'' in the CJI hearing the matter, the CJI decided to recuse himself. A three judge bench, now headed by Justice R Banumathi, and including Justices AS Bopana and Ashok Bhushan, will now hear the matter on wednesday at 10:30 am Speaking to India Today after the adjournment, Delhi gangrape victim's parents said that they have been ''waiting for justice for seven years''.
